KNK9 and Round Rock ISD Join Forces!
Kids-N-K9s and the Round Rock Independent School District partnered up to provide Kids-N-K9s at their Round Rock Opportunity Center alternative school disciplinary campus for a session starting October 2016, with 3 additional sessions occurring during the rest of the school year. The program was widely acclaimed by teachers, administrators, students, and of course, the dogs!
Youth who had been chronically truant before KNK9 started showing up to school every day to get to work with their dogs and their attendance continued even after the program was over. Other youth who were shut down, detached, or chronically disruptive had some breakthrough moments that left the teachers in awe and left them better able to work with others. Still others beamed with confidence and a sense of achievement they'd never felt before. The staff said learning the relationship-based techniques in KNK9 helped them work with the youth they found most challenging.

Mr. Rene Posey, Principal of the Round Rock Opportunity Center, said, "At first, I had my doubts, but when I saw how insightful the students were becoming by working with the dogs and how they reflected on their own choices and attitudes, I said, 'This is really working!' The testimonials given at the end of each session were enough to bring tears to one's eyes as we listened to the student trainers voice in their own words the positive transformations brought about through working with these precious yet rejected animals. Listening to the jubilation as the PA system announced all the dogs were adopted infused a positive energy that carried over..."
