K9 LICENSED CLINICAL THERAPY
KNK9 Therapy is offered by Rachel Masters, LCSW, for individual or group clients. Services can address already existing behavior plans or be used for additional areas of growth or treatment.
Rapport is usually gained quickly with the help of the dog and the youth are often much more willing to open up with the dog as the bridge.
See “Success Stories” for a sample of one of Rachel’s client’s experiences showing how powerful adding a dog to a therapy session can be.

“We met Rachel Masters there and she became a source of great help, understanding, wisdom and developed a wonderful plan for John to work with the Animal Shelter dogs. Rachel came for visits to our home where, many times, John would not really even talk to her. Somehow, masterfully, she gained his trust through means that I am amazed by and still do not understand. John responded to her quiet spirit. She allowed him to either talk or not talk to her. Then, she began the trips to the Animal Shelter.
John would come home a different boy. He was calm. Rachel was patient. Rachel was persistent and present and consistent. After a while, Rachel had John as her “assistant” at the Animal Shelter. He pretended that this was not a big deal and that he was bored with the “job” but he showed up consistently to help Rachel. Many times, I would drop him off and he would say, “This is my last time, I am never coming back, this is stupid!” I would say, “OK, just tell Rachel that you are through.” By the time he got back in the car, he would tell me that he would go again the next week to help Rachel.
One time, he began throwing a fit in the car. He said that he was never going back to the Animal Shelter again. He was yelling and screaming. I dropped him off and he told me that he was quitting. I told him to let Rachel know. When they came toward the car after working with the dogs, he whispered to me, “Don’t say anything, I am coming back!” An hour before, he was out of control.
I attribute so much of John’s healing to Rachel’s personality, to her skills and to her care for him. I could go on and on about Rachel and the year she spent with our grandson. I want you to know, and others who follow in her career, that Rachel is an amazing person with a giving and caring spirit. She is easy-going and yet firm. She communicates well and often so that we know where things stand. I appreciate everything that Rachel has done for and with us. She has made a huge difference in our lives and more importantly in the life of our grandson. These contributions will benefit him throughout his lifetime. I am sure that he will look back, one day, and mention her as a mentor and friend.”
